Great street tacos are all about balance: warm tortillas, well-seasoned filling, bright salsa, fresh herbs, and lime. You can recreate those flavors at home with a few simple techniques.

Warm the tortillas

Heat corn tortillas in a dry skillet for about 30 seconds per side, then keep them wrapped in a clean towel.

Season and sear your filling

Season chicken, beef, shrimp, beans, or vegetables with cumin, chili powder, garlic, salt, pepper, and lime zest. Cook in a hot pan without crowding it so the filling browns nicely.

Add fresh toppings

Chopped onion, cilantro, cabbage, radish, and avocado add freshness and crunch. Choose just a few so the filling stays the star.

Make a quick salsa

Combine diced tomato, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. For smoky salsa, char tomatoes and jalapeƱo before blending.

Finish with lime

Serve tacos right away with lime wedges and salsa. The best street tacos balance warm tortillas, savory filling, fresh toppings, and bright acidity.
